- FITS THE A10, THE A30, THE A40 AND THE A40 TR, AND NOTHING ELSE: This is a replacement cord for those four headsets, so it goes on when the original lead frays at the plug or disappears into a drawer. It is made by an independent partner and is not an official release, which is also why it costs a fraction of a first party lead. Headsets outside that list, including the wireless A50 and the A20, use different connectors and are not covered.
- THE FIVE POLE END GOES INTO THE HEADSET AND THE FOUR POLE END INTO YOUR DEVICE: Both plugs look alike at a glance, and putting them in the wrong way round is the usual reason a microphone goes quiet after a cable swap. Count the gold bands before you push it home, five on the headset side and four on the controller side, and the mic comes back with the audio.
- THE WHEEL CHANGES VOLUME AND ONLY VOLUME, BECAUSE THERE IS NO MUTE ON THIS CORD: Scroll the in line wheel up or down to set the level without opening a console menu or reaching for the controller. It is a passive analogue wheel, so it behaves the same on every 3.5 mm device. If muting the microphone from the cord matters to you, this is not the lead to buy.
- PLUGS STRAIGHT INTO THE 3.5 MM PORT ON A CONTROLLER, A PHONE OR A LAPTOP: There is no adapter, no driver and no software step, and the 2 meter run reaches from a controller in your hands back to the headset on your head. The jacks are gold plated and the moulded ends carry a reinforced collar where cords usually give out first.
- WHAT ARRIVES IS ONE 2 METER CORD, AND NOTHING ELSE: The lead measures 200 cm, which is 6.5 feet, in plain black with a smooth jacket rather than a braided sleeve. Store it loosely coiled rather than wound tight around an ear cup, because tight winding is what puts memory kinks in a cord and stresses the plug where it enters the moulding.
